Learn about digital TV change By PHILIP JANKOWSKI Taylor residents can learn from the source Tuesday about the upcoming digital switch for television. Representatives from Austin CBS affiliate KEYE will be broadcasting live from Taylor Public Library and answering questions about the switch that will render some older, analog TV sets useless without a conversion box after Feb. 17. The federal government mandated the digital switch in 1996, and later issued the February 2009 cut-off for analog signals. The switch will not affect cable and satellite subscribers. Cable boxes come with a digital converter already inside them. People with a rooftop antenna or “rabbit ears” coupled with an older television are those needing a conversion box. Any television bought after March 1, 2007 will already have a digital converter inside. The Federal Government has also set up a Digital-to-Analog Converter Box Coupon Program. Each household is eligible for two $40 coupons. More information on the coupon program is available at www.dtv2009.gov or by calling 1-888-388-2009.
