14 survivors found off the coast of the Balearic Islands | Abroad

Although the Spanish authorities had previously announced that they had recovered 11 bodies off the coast of the Balearic Islands, later in the evening they adjusted the balance: 14 survivors were found. Three people are still missing.

According to the Balearic State, 14 people were found alive in a small and unsafe boat, such as those often used by migrants. It appears that “at the moment no deaths have been found”. The search for three missing persons continues.

In recent months, more and more immigrants have arrived in the Balearic Islands or in southeastern Spain. They often come from Algeria. Three hundred of them have already been rescued off the coast of the Balearic Islands from Monday to Friday.

NGOs and authorities say the migration route across the strait to Gibraltar is gaining popularity despite tighter controls there. The length of the road can be more than two hundred kilometers. The sea is more dangerous in the fall than in the summer.
