More than 1.76 million people have been affected by severe flooding in north China’s Shanxi Province, local media reported. Heavy rains made rescue efforts more difficult.
In China, torrential rains and floods swept through the northern provinces of Shanxi and Hebei. In Shanxi, nearly two million residents were hit by the storm and 17,000 homes collapsed. The floods also inundated 60 coal mines, threatening a disaster for China’s energy supply.
So the price of coal rose to a record level. In Shanxi Province, nearly 10 percent of mines have been closed due to flooding.

In total, more than 120,000 people were urgently relocated and rehoused, and 17,000 homes collapsed across Shanxi Province, authorities reported to Xinhua News Agency. According to a report issued by the Chinese state, four police officers were killed in a landslide Global Times.
Shanxi also has a number of ancient ruins that are in great danger due to heavy rainfall.
