Local police in the capital, Brussels Ixelles, preventively detained 35 people on Saturday night because they threatened to flee after the murder of 17-year-old Nahil in France. Among them are at least 31 minors. However, there were no riots.
“Even today, social media has called for people to come together to respond to the death of the young man in France,” says police spokeswoman Ilse van de Keere. “During the evening, young people gathered near Place Louise. According to the information available and the immediate results, there appears to be a call to disrupt public order.”
31 minors
In the end, 35 administrative detentions were made, including 31 minors and four adults. “It’s about preventive arrests for identification,” says Van de Kere. “For minors, parents have been notified so they can be taken in.”
On Friday evening, 101 preventive people were arrested because they threatened to flee. On Thursday, riots broke out in the capital after the murder of Nael in our southern neighbours.
