The win over Mongolia wasn’t immediately convincing, but the Belgian cats knew that, too. “The head is now off,” was said after the first match and that was also evident in the Belgian women’s second match of this tournament.
Against everything in weak Egypt, the cats had no problems. The defensive strength, which was already good in the first match, was preserved, and minor mistakes were wasted at sea.
Becky Massey has continued her stellar run and now shots of Julie Fanlo and Laurie Raismont have fallen for it. Egypt did not know how to make arrows and had to watch Belgium, with the support of the fans, achieve a convincing win: 19-6.
With a 2 of 2 and the Dominican Republic losing, the Belgian Cats are already sure of their place in the next round. However, Friday’s match against Poland still occupies all the importance, because the winner of the group can go directly to the quarter-finals and thus get an extra rest.
The duel against Poland will be the first real test for the Belgian women in this World Cup, because today the Polish women have already shown that they are cut from a different fabric than Egypt and Mongolia.
“After our first match we looked at what could be done better and we took that with us in this match,” Becky Massey said after the victory over Egypt. “We dealt with it and it went well.”
“Our goal was to start the day with two wins. The tone has been set. We can be proud of that.”
“Now we have to analyze our strengths and weaknesses and explore Poland as best we can to see how they are. The ambition is to win our group.”
