Kobayashi achieves a comprehensive victory in the Four Hills Championship but misses the Grand Slam | More sports

winter sportsRyoyu Kobayashi claimed the overall victory after the fourth and final stage of the 70th edition of the Four Hills Tour. The 25-year-old Japanese rider, who has also won the previous three rounds, missed the “Grand Slams” and should have been content with a fifth place during the final stage at Bischofshofen. Austrian Daniel Huber was the winner of the day.

Kobayashi was unbeatable in the first three stages of the Four Hills Tour, winning back-to-back Oberstdorf and Garmisch-Partenkirchen and a first stage in Bischofshofen, which was initially planned in Innsbruck but could not continue there due to wind.

On Thursday, Kobayashi finished fifth to claim the overall win. Austrian Daniel Huber won the stage with a total of 286.8 ahead of Norway’s Halvor Aigner Granrod (4.4 points) and Germany’s Karl Geiger (4.9 points). Kobayashi remained fifth, nine points behind winner Huber. However, in the general situation, the Japanese were unable to achieve an overall victory.

Defending champion Kamil Stoch was allowed to forget another Vierschansentournee win for a while. The Pole, winner overall in 2017 and 2018, was unable to qualify for the second jump during the first stage, and thus was out of the race.

Kobayashi became the third ski jump to win the four stages of the Tour of Four Hills during the same edition in 2019, just as Germany’s Sven Hannawald (2002) and Camille Stoch (2018). On Thursday, he could become the first ski jump to complete the feat twice, but that didn’t work out.
