Jupiler Pro League
Racing Genk captured his lifeline in the battle of the top four. She beat Standard in the match that had to win 2-0. It is no coincidence that Theo Bongonda and Paul Onwacho – the top scorers – found their way into the goal for the hosts. Benchmark remains in the desolate thirteenth place and seems to already know its fate.
Jink – Standard in short
- Key moment: Genk has enough chances in the first half hour to force the breakout, but only hits before the break. Standard strike, but 2-0 after a fatal error by Sisako really puts hope in the visitors’ head.
- man of the match: Junya Eto’o cornered the young Calot, especially in the first half. The Japanese confused the visitors’ defense with their sharp acceleration. Only the final product was missing, although that was also due to his Ito teammates.
- distinct: The Paul Onuachu collection is complete! He finally succeeded in his seventh match for Genk against Standard. As of this afternoon, Roche was the last team in the Jupiler Pro League in which the Nigerian had yet to score a goal.
The standard survives the siege of Genk
Genk received a fixed standard with a completely renewed defense. Nevertheless, he was able to quietly grow in the game, as the home team began to break into Bodart’s goal. Onwacho headed in the second minute, but this goal was canceled due to offside.
Chances continued to advance for the Limburgers, but Bongonda and Munoz were unable to capitalize on them. Tresor got an almost unmissable shot from Eto’o, but he kicked it somewhat clumsily. Then there was silence for a while and Standard squeaked cautiously, with Cavaro’s place ball as the most dangerous moment.
Bungonda and Unwacho make the difference after all
The first half was already on his last legs when Bodart had to swing to save a fallen header from Onwacho. The crowd at Cegeka Arena had already succumbed to the goalless half, until Tresor and Bongonda led 1-0. sledgehammer to the standard.
And Liege had to deal with another team shortly after the break. Sissako allowed the kidnapping and made Onuachu 2-0 with a small bump. A few minutes later, Standard gathered his courage again. Raskin and Cavaro could not warn Vandevoordt. Substitute Dragos eventually managed to do so, but his shot hit the keeper.
