Maya Angelo, African-American poet on American currency

These are not collections, but coins produced in large quantities for everyday use. They are being attacked in Philadelphia and Denver, according to a report released Monday.

The new currencies are the result of a vote in Congress in late 2020, following a bill introduced by a Democratic representative in California.

Until now, the 25 cent coin, the most widely used in the United States, had only a few alternative versions. Traditionally, on one side of the coin is the portrait of the first US President George Washington and on the other the eagle.

The new coin features a portrait of George Washington on one side and a portrait of Maya Angelo on the other. This is the first in a series Famous American women, Various women from different backgrounds will be honored.

Maya Angelo, best known for her memoirs and poems, is considered one of the greatest writers on the plight of African Americans in the United States. He wrote the autobiographical novel I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, considered one of the greatest in American literature.
