10 million US awards for tips leading to six Russian hackers

The U.S. State Department on Tuesday promised a reward of up to $ 10 million for information leading to the arrest of six notorious Russian hackers. They are said to have distributed the NotPetya ransomware on behalf of Russian military intelligence (GRU).

In 2017, ransomware led to major computer problems in Ukrainian companies, but also in other parts of the world, including the port of Rotterdam and some Belgian companies. In the United States, damage to hospitals and the pharmaceutical industry, among other things, is estimated at nearly $ 1 billion. In October 2020, the Federal U.S. Arbitration Tribunal charged all six of them with a series of digital offenses.

The suspects attacked a thousand computer systems last month and prepared for a cyber attack that could have taken over at any moment. The intervention of the United States and Great Britain prevented it. Even before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, both countries had already warned of this digital war.

According to Washington, the most wanted hackers targeting key infrastructure in the United States are Yuri Andrijenko, Sergei Tedistov, Pavel Frolov, Anatoly Kovalev, Artem Ochischenko and Peter Bliskin. They work on the GROe unit 74455, which is also known as Sandworm, Voodoo Bear, Telebots and Iron Viking. The ministry wants to know more about who they are, where they live and who they work with.
