Former Russian Prime Minister Kirizhenko is responsible for the Kremlin’s Russian domestic policy.
In Mariupol, Kirizhenko reportedly visited the Ilyich steel plant and the port.
Kirizhenko and General Secretary of the ruling United Russia party Andrei Turchak also visited Volnovacha.
The leader of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic considered Kirizhenko’s visit a symbol of “the return of Russia here forever.” Before the invasion of Ukraine, Russia recognized the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics.
According to the head of the Ukrainian Military Intelligence Directorate (GOER), the deputy head of the Russian administration arrived in Mariupol to prepare for a military parade on May 9. Mariupol will become the center of Russian celebrations. “The main roads in the city are being cleared and the wreckage and bodies of the dead as well as unexploded ordnance are being cleared,” the government said in a Telegram statement.
The Russian government added that Russian viewers will see reports of residents’ “joy” at the arrival of Russians in the city, citing the Kremlin’s “massive propaganda campaign”.
