They escaped from the notorious Alcatraz prison over 60 years ago and are now back in the spotlight with new photos of bank robbers Frank Morris and brothers John and Clarence Anglin. If they are still alive, they are now in their 90s. Their photos, distributed by US Marshals in California, have been technically modified and age-corrected so that Americans can identify ancient suspects today.

The three achieved international fame by escaping from heavily guarded Alcatraz Island more than sixty years ago on June 11, 1962. They made their way out of their cell through a metal grille modeled on Andy Dufresne from The Shawshank Redemption. Their escape was also made into a movie, starring Clint Eastwood in the lead role.

Preparatory year

It would have taken Frank, John and Clarence a year to get ready in prison at The Rock. On the day of their escape, they saved time by putting things under their sheets so that the guards would not immediately notice their disappearance. They had drifted away from the island on a raft and then had stolen a car on the mainland. It has always remained a big mystery where they ended up. After a 10-day inspection, the prison administration and US security services concluded that all three had drowned. After all, no one was able to escape from Alcatraz.

However, the bodies of the Americans were never found, and some fifty years later a letter fell to the floor in the FBI: “Yes, we all got through that tonight, but hardly! Frank died in October 2005. His grave is in Alexandria under a different name. He died My brother in 2011. “John Anglin signed. He offered to reveal his whereabouts, on the condition that he be sent back to prison for up to a year and receive medical attention. The case was reopened, but there was no sequel after that.

On Monday, the US investigative services published new photos of the three “wanted” men and information about their appearance and possible tattoos. The reason for this post remains unclear. A statement was made. “U.S. Marshals’ ongoing investigation into the 1962 escape from Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary serves as a warning to fugitives: No matter the time, we will continue to search for you and bring you to justice.” Anyone who knows more is asked to contact the US Marshals of San Francisco.

The three suspects ended up in Alcatraz for several armed bank robberies. In case anyone finds them: Clarence Anglin of Alabama would now be 91, Brother John 92 and Frank Morris 96. But no one can escape death.
