Nothing launches its first smartphone

The first smartphone out of nothing called Phone (1) and offers quite a few powerful specs at a competitive price. The Android device will come on the market at a starting price of 469 euros. So you have a Qualcomm 778G+ processor, a 6.55-inch OLED display, 120Hz, a waterproof housing, and a 50MP dual camera.

But the most noticeable thing about this device is the design. The back of the phone 1 is transparent so you can see some components. There’s also nothing built in with LEDs on the back for a look a bit reminiscent of gaming PCs. An “avatar”, as None calls it, lights up when you receive notifications. The different patterns in those lights should show you, among other things, charging status and incoming calls, without having to put them on the screen.

Under the hood, the smartphone runs Android 12, with Nothing OS that, according to the press release, should excel in sobriety and be free of bloatware. It will have its own place in all of that: the NFT Gallery where users can track prices for their digital products, and the ability to set these NFTs as home screens as well (just like you can, with other JPEGs).

Through a series of engineering feats, such as the operating system learning your favorite apps, the battery should last for eighteen hours, which isn’t very long per se. The waiting time is two days. The Nothing Phone (1) is available from July 21 in black and white, for €469 (8GB version, 128GB storage) or €499 (8GB/256GB). A heavier version of €549 (12 GB / 256 GB) will be released at the end of the summer.
