On Wednesday, a US judge rejected an appeal by American actress Amber Heard. Heard requested that the ruling in the case against Johnny Depp be overturned, and wanted a new trial.
In early June, a court in Fairfax, Virginia, ordered Heard for defamation to pay $10 million in damages to her ex-husband, actor Johnny Depp. Depp was also found guilty and had to pay Heard $2 million.
Then the actress asked to cancel the statement. Her lawyers cited, among other things, a mistaken identity with one of the seven jurors. According to American media, court documents show that a 77-year-old man had to be called as a juror. But the invitation letter was answered by his son, who has the same name and lives at the same address.
A judge in Fairfax dismissed the appeal. Heard wasn’t hurt by having the “wrong” judge, it seems. He emphasized that there was no evidence of fraud and both sides agreed to form the jury at the start of the trial.
