Soon parties in space? The Chainsmokers aim to perform in the stratosphere

The Chainsmokers, the duo behind Countless Dances, want to hold a concert on the edge of space in 2024. With the help of space tourism company World View, the pair were traveling in a high-pressure capsule performance Attached to a stratospheric balloon at an altitude of 30 km.

For Drew Taggart and Alex Pall, who are both members of The Chainsmokers, it will be an opportunity to somewhat fulfill their dream of going into space. It will not be an official space party yet, because space begins at an altitude of about 100 kilometers. For its part, World View hopes that the first concert will inspire young people and other artists.

So, strictly speaking, the “near space concert,” which can last for hours and be recorded, will take place in the stratosphere, the second layer of Earth’s atmosphere. Further details about the recording and broadcast of the concert will not be announced until later.

culture in space

It wouldn’t be the first cultural event in space anyway. A Russian film crew managed to shoot a movie aboard the International Space Station for 12 days. There is also talk of Tom Cruise scenes filming a movie in the same location.

But all this indicates that the cultural sector has a growing interest in space projects. “Space shouldn’t just be for scientists and engineers,” says World View.

The concert may not have been planned for a “real” space yet, but it will of course be a stunt by space tourism company World View. It’s an opportunity to make a name for itself alongside industry peers SpaceX, Blue Origin and Virgin Galactic.
