‘It’s hard to show how grateful we are’: Goldband continues to conquer Belgium in Tomorrowland | festive summer

MusicDutch band Goldband is writing the history of the festival this summer: performances at Rock Werchter, Tomorrowland and Pukkelpop – the Belgian “Big Three” if you will – no Dutch band has done this before. They can also remove Tomorrowland from their list since Friday. “Very special,” says Milo, 29, Karel, 28, and Boaz, 32, in hilarious, messy conversation about playing with a heel bone fracture, Eurovision Song Contest and Philip Goebbels. “We really want to share with the smartest human you have.”

They came and watched and played Tomorrowland flat with their light songs full of strong beats. Three Hagenese residents of Goldband, with a striking preference for neck rugs, were allowed to subject the library to their will today, something to which the assembled public willingly agreed. With this they have already managed to remove two Belgian landmarks from their list, following earlier Rock Werchter. And there’s another game on the list, because Goldband will also be playing Pukkelpop this summer. In doing so, they are writing the history of the festivals: never before had a Dutch band done this for them in the same year. And they are very happy with that. “It was a bit overwhelming today, and overwhelming,” they admitted after their show. “We really think it’s very special and we’re very grateful, too,” Milo adds at the time. “We don’t know how to act half the time, which is why we are so kind to everyone here right now.” “I also think it’s very funny that you said on the bus here: How am I supposed to show that I’m grateful,” Boaz adds. “This is actually very difficult to show.”

Meeting all three Duracell rabbits can sometimes be a challenge. Their thoughts fly in all directions, chaos reigns and jokes fly. “Maybe we are a little annoying now? Do you find us annoying?” They want to know. “We might be a little out of reach. Take it easy, boys.” Although, we gladly forgive them: The three have just finished their highly-acclaimed show on The Library and are eager to dive into the party crowd. Except for Boaz, because he jumped off the stage during their performance at Rock Werchter and unfortunately fell. The result: a broken heel bone, ten weeks in a cast. So in Tomorrowland he had to end the party sitting down. “How hard is that? Five. At 27 inches, it looks like. So there won’t be parties today. We’re going to leave Boaz here backstage,” laughs Milo. “Like: It’s a pity you ruined your summer with your jump, but Karel and I are going to have fun. “Get the maximum,” they say with you. Then we go to the café.” But first to the Euphoria stage. “I like the hard style,” says Karel. “But not from da Toikas, who should play there. This is very commercial and we don’t like it. We really like pure music, we’re fundamentalists.”

Away from the music: Milo recently participated in the Dutch version of “De Slimste Mens”. He admits: “I flew in the meantime.” “I knew all the clever questions, I didn’t know the stupid questions. Sesame Street, Paul Giggs, the werewolf… I don’t know all the things you don’t really need to know to survive.” Does he feel a desire to be named the smartest person in our country? “I really want it,” he says excitedly. “The Flemish version is much nicer, I heard. With more humor. And Philip Goebbels!” During his participation, Milo also mentioned that Goldband is open for the Eurovision Song Contest. When we ask them today how serious these plans are, they each say something different. “It’s our big dream” (Mello). “I don’t do it because my brother doesn’t like it” (Carel). “Now we have Jean Smit on the phone!” (Boaz). “No, we invite you here to come to Curaçao on October 20. We sleep there, like John Lennon and Yoko Ono. And there you can ask all the questions you want about the Eurovision Song Contest.” Marked.
