Boeing delivered its first Dreamliner in over a year | Economie

American Airlines took delivery of its first Dreamliner in over a year on Wednesday. The airline – which already has 47 such aircraft in service and is still waiting for another 42 – will already start operating the aircraft “in the coming weeks”. American Airlines expects a total of nine deliveries this year.

Two years ago, Boeing had delivery problems for its 787 Dreamliner, a long-haul wide-body aircraft, due to several flaws. In the middle of last year, the US Federal Aviation Administration finally intervened: It halted deliveries entirely after problems with the aircraft continued to arise.

On Monday, the Federal Aviation Administration gave the green light to deliver the Dreamliners after Boeing made “necessary modifications” to the Dreamliner. Unlike before, the final inspection of the final aircraft will now not be done by Boeing itself, but by inspectors from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Boeing plans to gradually increase final assembly of the Dreamliner at its South Carolina plant. The manufacturer currently has about 120 completed Dreamliners awaiting delivery.
