‘IS Beatle’ sentenced to eight life sentences in US

A US court on Friday sentenced 34-year-old British jihadist El Shafee El-Sheikh, known as the ‘Beatles’ of the Islamic State (IS) terror group, to eight life sentences without the possibility of parole. .

El-Sheikh, nicknamed Jihadi George, had already been convicted in April of kidnapping and killing four Americans in Syria. He played a role in the hostage-taking and deaths of journalists James Foley and Steven Sotloff and humanitarian workers Kayla Mueller and Peter Kasik.

El-Sheikh was part of an IS unit that kidnapped at least 27 people from 15 countries in Syria between 2012 and 2015. Some of the hostages were released after paying ransom. Others were tortured and some were brutally killed.

The jihadists were nicknamed the “Beatles” because of their British accent. The group’s leader, Mohammed Emwazi, nicknamed Jihadi John, was killed in a US drone strike in late 2015. Alexandra Amon Kotte, the jihadi Ringo, is serving a life sentence in the US. A fourth member, Ein Davies, or Jihadi Paul, was arrested in the United Kingdom last week after being sentenced to 7.5 years in prison in Turkey.
