There will be another strike on Monday at many of the Walloon quarries owned by aggregate producer Sagrex. A union confirms that the campaign is entering its second week.
In the quarries in Liege (Anges and Moha) and Namur (Isemont and Piz) among others, the employees did their work. Work started last Monday due to dissatisfaction with the lack of compensation for rising fuel costs. On Wednesday, a mediation attempt failed. Then the unions submitted a counter-proposal, but the management rejected it.
“Given the management’s position, the strike will continue. We will consult all employees on Monday about the follow-up to the measures that will be taken,” FGTB delegate Frederic Lucita said.
Sagrex is the market leader in the Belgian and Dutch market. Aggregates are used in construction, more specifically as a primary component of concrete. The group employs nearly 400 people, spread over 20 locations, 18 of which are in Belgium and two in the Netherlands. The company is represented on the Belgian market with the brands CBR, Sagrex and Inter-Beton.
