(ANSA) – JERUSALEM, July 11 – Former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has left his official residence in Jerusalem permanently, almost a month after he was ousted by his successor Naphtali Bennett.
Netanyahu, Israel’s president for 12 consecutive years after the previous three years, has been in office longer than any other prime minister in Israel’s history, and has remained in office despite allegations of fraud, corruption and bad credit, denying them and defining them as a conspiracy by the left.
After four rounds of elections within two years of the country’s split, right-wing nationalist Naphtali Bennett was sworn in as leader of a broad coalition on June 13 and ousted. However, Netanyahu did not leave the PM’s residence, where he continued to welcome guests, including former US Ambassador to the UN Nicki Haley, during Donald Trump’s presidency.
In late June, Netanyahu and Bennett’s offices announced a definite date for the transfer of the former prime minister: Saturday, July 10. After the agreed deadline, Nallanyaku left just after midnight. Bennett will reside at the Prime Minister’s House today.
