American rapper Kanye West, now known as Ye, is taking over social media Parlor from parent company Parliament Technologies. It is not known how much he gives.

Parler Profiles is a social network that promotes freedom of expression and protection of user rights. As Facebook and Twitter began to moderate more strictly, the service gained popularity among people with far-right ideologies in the United States. “The proposed acquisition will secure Parlor’s future role in creating an irrevocable ecosystem that welcomes all voices,” the site said.

“In a world where conservative ideas are considered controversial, we need to make sure we have the right to express ourselves,” Kanye West said in a statement. The rapper recently faced restrictions from major social networks for violating their policies. For example, Twitter and Instagram last week removed posts deemed anti-Semitic.

Parlor also had to deal with opposition from tech companies. Both Google and Apple temporarily withdrew the site from their app stores for policy violations following the January 2021 attack on the US capital.

Parliament Technologies CEO George Farmer calls Kanye West a “champion in the fight for free speech” and talks about the “groundbreaking” deal. Parliament will be honored to help him achieve his goals.

Details of the transaction were not disclosed. The deal should be finalized this year, it seems.
