In recent years, Formula 1 has succeeded in something that at first seemed impossible: it has gained a foothold in America. According to the Dutchman, Max Verstappen also sees the sport growing in popularity in America, which he attributes to the openness of the sport.
For years Formula 1 seemed almost impossible to get a foot in the door in America. However, in recent years, this has changed. The game is growing as part of the hit Netflix series ‘Drive to Survive’. With three Grands Prix next season in the US, the seniors have benefited immediately from the growing popularity.
Reigning world champion Max Verstappen also sees the sport growing in America. The Dutch Red Bull Racing driver thinks it’s crucial to set the game up further. Speaking to Motorsport.com, he points to the Netflix series: “I think everyone wondered why there wasn’t really a kickstart here. I think people have gained more insight in recent years, including Netflix. The sport was closed up until a few years ago and you couldn’t really get close to the teams.”
