Last week, the new Apple TV 4K, by From a press release, announced. The multimedia box doesn’t seem like a huge upgrade at first glance, but it does certain things a little differently than its predecessor.
To get a good idea of what exactly these are, OMT editor Mark Hofman lists five for you.
Apple TV 4K (2022): 5 great new features
Unlike almost all iPad models, the price of the Apple TV 4K has come down. You are now clicking on the smart box for an amount 169 euros a head. With this you get a Wi-Fi model at home. If you also want to have an Ethernet connection, you currently have to pay 189 euros.
But before you start using this new product, it’s best to know exactly what the new stuff is. I will list five of them:
#1 Thinner & Lighter
Let’s start with the design. Apple TV 4K (2022) features an improved design. The device does not look very different from its predecessor, but it has become more compact.
The new model is not only 12% thinner, but 50% lighter as well. It’s easier to put it away in your setup, which the Apple TV 4K owes to the A15 Bionic chip. But more on that later.
#2 Supports Apple TV 4K HDR10+
On the software side, Apple has also added support for HDR10+ this time around. This function raises the image quality, as well as Dolby Vision, in supported applications.
Better picture quality, provided you have the right TV, seems to be a reality.
#3 More storage and memory
Apple TV 4K (2022) has more RAM and more storage. The previous model had to do this in the field with 3 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage.
This time, as a consumer, you have a product with 4GB of RAM and at least 128GB of storage.
#4 Apple TV 4K has an A15 Bionic chip
Hold on tight: The new Apple TV is 50% faster than its predecessor. Reason: Adding the new A15 Bionic chip. The previous model carried the A12 Bionic with it.
According to Apple, you see the difference primarily in system response speed, but certainly also in graphics performance. For example, the new Apple TV 4K is 30% better than its predecessor.
#5 Siri Remote Without Charger
The new Siri Remote left the Lightning port at the back and now runs entirely on USB-C. The only downside is that the charger for the remote control is missing. So you will have to buy it yourself.
