Actor Kit Connor, known from the popular Netflix series “Heartstopper,” he announced on Twitter on Tuesday that he is bisexual. The Briton, who has a nascent relationship with a boy on the series, would have preferred not to share this. He previously left Twitter because users kept asking him if he was LGBTQ+ off the chain.
“Congratulations for forcing an 18-year-old out of himself,” Connor wrote in his tweet, also noting that “some” missed the “purpose of the show.” Heartstopper is about Charlie (Joe Locke), a gay high school student who falls in love with his classmate Nick (Connor). The series is about self-acceptance.
Critics accused Connor of “gay hunting” before he appeared on social media. This can be described as LGBTQ+ impersonation, or making people think you’re a weirdo when you’re not, in order to attract fans in this community. Pop star Harry Styles, who openly supports and often accuses LGBTQ+ fans of this.
I don’t understand how people can watch Heartstopper and then happily spend time speculating about sexual orientations and judging stereotypes.

For fans of the series, it was important to find out if their idol Connor is also LGBTQ+ like his character. Although the actor has said he understands this in the past, he has indicated several times that he has found speculation about his sexuality disturbing. He said on a radio show that he found the outside pressure “dangerous.” “I feel confident and comfortable about my sexuality, but I don’t like labels and things like that. I’m not really interested in that and I don’t feel like I have to label myself, especially in public,” Connor said a while ago.
The actor is receiving a lot of backlash from fellow Heartstopper on his tweet. “I don’t understand how people can watch Heartstopper and then have such a happy time speculating about sexual orientations and judgments about stereotypes,” said creator Alice Osman. “You don’t owe anyone anything. I’m proud of you, my friend,” writes Joe Locke.
