The judge previously only allowed actions to take place as long as essential mail delivery, such as funeral cards and medical letters, was not disrupted. According to the FNV, this means that only 33 people are allowed to strike at the same time. “If there is a strike and other employees feel wind of it, they may want to join and then we have to disappoint them,” explains FNV Director Marisca Exalto. “The result is that PostNL employees cannot strike the way they want and that the small strike that is still possible has to be done in secret.”
According to the union, PostNL employees are striking because they want a better collective bargaining offer from their employer. They want everyone within PostNL to earn at least €14 an hour. In addition, they want to increase wages by at least 10%, so that they can absorb the costs of the price increase to some extent. They also want to reduce the amount of work. Temporary workers must also be given a permanent appointment after working for PostNL for nine months.
PostNL made another gesture to employees on Monday. The company will actually pay a portion of the funds from the December salary collective bargaining offer to employees. FNV has previously said that staff are “furious” about the “pretty keeper”. The union is considering further action.
