China records zero deaths from Corona, after changing the counting method abroad

Since 2020, China has imposed strict health restrictions under what is known as the no virus spread policy, to protect the most vulnerable and unvaccinated people.

However, the government ended most of these restrictions without warning in early December due to growing public anger and the significant impact on the economy. The number of infections has exploded since then, prompting fears of a high death rate among the elderly, who are extremely vulnerable.

Authorities said on Tuesday that the only statistics are people who died directly from respiratory problems related to Covid-19. According to the authorities, this “scientific” method leads to lower numbers.

Wan Guiqiang, a Beijing city health official, defended the method on Tuesday: “After infection with an Omicron, the underlying disease is the main cause of death.” Only a few die directly from respiratory problems caused by Covid-19.

However, the AFP concluded, crematoriums and hospitals are groaning under pressure. However, according to official figures, only seven patients have died of Corona since the restrictions were lifted in early December.

The United States said, on Tuesday, that it is ready to supply Corona vaccines to China. “It is in the interest of the international community that we jointly help China contain the outbreak,” State Department spokesman Ned Price told reporters.
