Silver by Mareth Vanhoef at Zero

On the first day of the European Junior and Promise Cycling Championships in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands, Mareth Vanhoef won silver in the junior girls’ zero race. She just had to give way to Italian Valentina Basilico. Poland’s Maja Tracka was allowed to take the bronze.

The young boys could not qualify for the next round in the team quest. Aeneas Litten, Jasper Bertels, Lennert Bertels and Thibaut Bernard had to settle for tenth place. Renzo Rice is still in the junior class, and finished seventh in the zero race.

Promise Gianluca Pollefliet also finished seventh on Tuesday, in the elimination race. In the women’s under-23 individual pursuit, Catherine de Klerk was unable to qualify for the finals. She finished eighth in elimination.

Laporte wins the opening match of the Tour du Limousin, the third Paquot

Christophe Laporte (Cofidis) won the opening stage of the Tour de Limousin (cat. 2.1). The 28-year-old Frenchman showed himself the fastest in a sprint after 183.3 kilometers from Isle to Sainte-Feyre, ahead of compatriot Dorian Godon and Belgium’s Tom Backout.

The limousine tour meant a return to Peloton for Frenchman Thibaut Pinot. The French classification rider crashed in the 2020 Tour, finished it anyway, then started at Volta, but got off after the second stage and then never raced again in 2020. This year he has never felt the same, nor at Tirreno. -Adriatico, nor in the alpine race, his last race in 2021 at the end of April. He has been training again since the beginning of July and is now a racer again, although he didn’t immediately find the course that suited him on the opening stage.

Vinokourov on the possibility of Nibali’s return: “The agreement is close”

Coach Alexander Vinokourov confirmed to La Gazzetta dello Sport that Vincenzo Nibali (36) is close to returning to Astana in 2022. “An agreement is close,” the former Kazakh rider said. Nabali led four seasons of the Light Blue formation between 2013 and 2016. The Italian spent his best years there: in the Kazakh recruitment he won the Giro twice, once at the Tour de France and the Tour of Lombardy. Nabali has terminated his contract with Trek-Segafredo, where he has been playing since 2020. The Messina Shark has previously raced in Fasa Bortolo (2005), Liquigas (2006-2012) and Bahrain (2017-2019).

As of next season, the DSM team is based on Norway’s Jonas Eversby Hvideberg (22) and Dean Fredrik Rodenberg Madsen (23). The Scandinavians signed a two-year professional contract with the German WorldTour team. Both riders come from the Norwegian Uno-X.

Eversby Hvidberg won the gold at the European Under-23 Road Championships last year and the silver at the Norwegian Elite Road Championships.

Rodenberg Madsen has particularly impressed him on the track in recent years. He became the world champion with Denmark in the team pursuit at the beginning of 2020. At the previous Olympic Games in Tokyo, he won a silver medal in the same discipline.

An extra day on the Baloise Ladies Tour next year

The Baloise Women’s Tour in 2022 will not consist of four but five days. The stage race will take place from Wednesday 13 to Sunday 17 July 2022 and will therefore be one of the last races to prepare for the Women’s Tour de France, which will then start on 24 July.

“In the process of growing our competition, it is time to adjust our ambitions. Interest in women’s cycling continues to grow. As an organizer, we want to respond to that. There is a great deal of interest from cities and municipality to serve as a starting point and/or an end point. Baloise Women’s Tour organizer Gert Stevens said, “That’s why we want to add a day to the competition.”

The latest edition of the Baloise Women’s Tour, the former BeNe Women’s Tour, this year went to Germany’s Lisa Klein. She succeeded herself as the ultimate winner in this stage race
