Google and Apple take on accusations at CES 2023

CES 2023 is in full swing and Google is taking the opportunity to unveil Apple once again. Apple will punish its users by ignoring the RCS protocol.

Since 2019, Google has been doing its best to popularize the RCS protocol. Every Android user has access to the digital back of text messages. To do this, they just need to install the Google Messages app and set up the chat service. Many manufacturers have also integrated Google as an RCS provider into their messaging applications. Once you leave the Android ecosystem, you hit the RCS wall. Apple does not support the GSMA protocol.

Google is fond of RCS

Thus, RCS messages sent from Android to Apple users are converted into SMS or MMS messages. On the one hand, this costs users money, and on the other hand, it means that the quality of sent photos and videos deteriorates. Files sent via the MMS protocol are compressed before sending. Much to the chagrin of Google, which believes Apple should support RCS in iMessage. The company is now putting up a large billboard (DOOH) in front of it in Las Vegas with Apple in the pill screws to reject.

This isn’t the first time Google has tried to lure the Cupertino tech giant into using RCS. In August, the search giant launched “Message receivedCampaign to convince iOS users of the need for RCS. They must then rampage at Apple and demand the introduction of the remote control system. Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed during the Apple Code conference, which took place in September, that RCS is not going to happen as far as it is concerned. “Buy your mom an iPhone,” Cook answered a question about communication limitations between Android and iOS.

Don’t drop the ball

Now Google is trying again, this time during the CES tech show in Las Vegas. “2022 may be over, but you don’t have to suddenly give up on your beloved photo and video fix,” the billboard reads. Google is also showing its usefulness and giving Apple a head start on the code to address the issue. “Here’s some code to get the ball rolling,” Google wrote in its letter to Apple.

Apple’s response has yet to come. Not surprising given the stance the company has recently taken through CEO Tim Cook. What do you think: Should Apple get RCS? Let us know in the comment below.
