It’s not official (yet), but the four-minute limit for individual pursuits on the bike path has been demolished. Not by Filippo Gana – the current song record holder who many saw as the man who would go under 4 minutes – but by Ashton Lambie.

The 30-year-old American announced at the start of the summer that he wanted to tighten the record in singles pursuit. Lambie has been cycling on the track for about three years and was previously active as a gravel biker. He is not well known, but he took the silver medal at the World Cup at the beginning of this year.

That was behind Filippo Gana. The Italian time-testing world champion won the gold medal in the individual pursuit at the Track Cycling World Championships in Berlin in 4:01.934 – the world record to this day. But this is the best time now for the effort.

At least if the Lambie record is officially approved. The American did not drop his achievement in an official race and, like Victor Campanaerts, made sure that all conditions were scientifically optimized to achieve the world clock record.

Just like Campenaerts, Lambie set 3:59,930 (for reference: over 60 kilometers per hour on average) on a track in Aguascalientes in Mexico. He also used a 64×15 resistance in his standard attempt. With a regular race bike, the max resistance is 53×11.
