The latter was brought back in a big way in 2018, when the fourth generation Jimny hit the market Appearance of the mini G-Class, after its predecessor went for a slightly more rounded look. Its small size gives it the ability to tackle any terrain, but you shouldn’t want to take multiple passengers or luggage with you. Therefore, Jimny as an adventure camp involves a lot of compromises…
Seating and luggage space at the same time
… Until now, because Maruti Suzuki, the Indian branch of the Japanese manufacturer, presented the five-door Jimny at the Auto Expo in New Delhi. The Jimny has a 34cm longer wheelbase and is now 3.99m long, making room for two additional doors (and an additional side window). From now on, you will get a full rear seat and a usable boot of 208 liters, instead of Having to choose between the two. Also new is a new 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system and smartphone interface, which is a huge improvement over the old system.
There’s also talk of a mild hybrid mate for the naturally aspirated 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine in every Jimny, for slightly lower fuel consumption. Selectable all-wheel drive remains standard and you can choose between a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic transmission. Or at least if you live in India, because Suzuki has confirmed that this variant will not appear in Europe. So we still had to be content with the three-door, which is only imported into Belgium for light freight European CO2 standards for passenger cars to be able to achieve. We hope that the technological update will come to Europe.
