Android tips for anonymous calling
Not everyone is a fan of it, but you can choose to call without caller ID. As the name suggests, the recipient does not see the phone number they are trying to reach. Instead, they will see a generic term like “unknown number” or “private number” on the phone screen.
There are several reasons for calling anonymously. For example, because you are very fond of privacy and prefer to keep your phone number to yourself. Or because you work in healthcare and make business calls with patients.
Disclaimer in advance: Activating Anonymous Calling works a little differently on every phone. So we discuss several methods below.
1. This is how to set up an anonymous (permanent) connection
Enabling anonymous calling starts with the Phone app, how could it be otherwise. Follow the instructions below:
- Open the Phone app and tap on the three dots at the top right;
- Choose “Settings” and then “Connection Accounts”;
You may have to click on “Advanced Settings” first.
- select the SIM card and press “Advanced settings”;
Do you have a dual sim phone? Then you will see multiple SIM cards here. You can set for each SIM whether to connect anonymously or not.
- Click on “Caller ID” and finally select “Hide Number”.
do it! You should connect anonymously now. So the person on the other end of the line does not see who is trying to reach him or her. Keep in mind that not everyone is waiting for this. People may not answer your call.
2. More roads lead to Rome
Is the above step-by-step plan not working? Some Android phones require that anonymous calling be turned on from the Calls tab. This works like this:
- Open the Phone app and tap on the three dots at the top right of the screen;
- Choose “Settings” and go to “Calls”;
- Click on Caller ID and choose Hide Number.
Still not successful? Then open the device’s Settings application and go to the search window (recognizable by the magnifying glass icon). Enter “Caller ID” or “Anonymous” here. You should now see a window where you can set Caller ID to Hide Number.
3. Call anonymously once
Do you want to call anonymously at once? Which can! Simply put the code #31# before the number you want to call. For example, the entire phone number will look like this: # 31 # 0612345678. So it’s a matter of pressing the bell icon.
4. Turn off anonymous calls
Do you no longer want to call anonymously? Then you need to re-enable Caller ID (Caller ID). This is very easy:
- Open the Phone app, tap on the three dots at the top right of the screen and choose “Settings”;
- Go to “Call accounts” and select a SIM card;
- Tap on “Additional Settings”, choose “Caller ID” and tap on “Display Number”.
5. Disadvantages of Anonymous Communication
Anonymous communication also has disadvantages. First of all, not everyone is waiting for these types of calls. Many people like to know who they are talking to, thus suppressing anonymous calls as a matter of principle.
Another drawback is that if the recipient misses the call, they will not be able to call back. After all, the person who tried to call is not there.
It’s also helpful to know that anonymous calling only applies to you and your recipient. The provider still sees your call. This ensures that people and companies cannot abuse this option.
