In the vast majority of cases, this basic package was automatically paid for by the energy supplier with whom you had a gas and/or electricity contract on September 30, 2022. How you get this premium depends from one supplier to the next. Some gave monthly discounts on bills submitted or final settlement, others deducted the amount in one go and other suppliers deposited the amount in your account number. “For example, more than 844 million euros have already been paid to citizens,” FPS Economy said in a press release.

However, there are still people who are entitled to it, but who have not yet received the first basic package. Monday morning through April 30th, they can still apply for their installments. This has already happened 13,000 times around 5pm, according to Energy Minister Tinne Van der Straeten (Groen). In addition, 672 application forms were sent by e-mail and the call center was called 9,000 times and e-mailed 1,200 times with questions.

Check the electricity and gas bills you received for November-December 2022 and January 2023. In most cases, the installment is deducted from your advance bill. • Usually, your supplier will pay the premium for the account number you use to pay your bills. If you’d rather see that money in another account, enter a different account number. Finally, check the bottom boxes and click Submit Request.

Applications are processed as quickly as possible, however there may be several weeks/months between receipt of your application, its processing and any award via the supplier. “Also keep in mind that applications by mail (and also by email) require more time, so you will have to wait longer to get your premium,” reports FPS Economy.

It is also possible that the supplier may not have your account number – for example because you are no longer a customer. FPS Economy still says “They will contact you next via email or letter”.
