AthleticsNavi Thiam decided at the last minute not to participate in the high jump in the Demi League in Eugene. Her management says it’s a neck injury.
It will be Thiam’s first match in Eugene after her Olympic title in Heptathlon in Tokyo. She had to take three flights to get to Eugene from Brussels, but all this was for nothing. A neck injury throws a wrench into the works.
“Since yesterday (Friday, editor) I have a neck problem,” Thiam told our editors through her management. “I tried because I definitely wanted to jump here, but in the warm-up it didn’t really work out. I didn’t want to risk making things worse.”
It remains unclear if Memorial Van Damme will be waived on September 3, as Thiam will also finish the high jump.
