Sony ZV-E1

Sony today announced the new ZV-E1, the world’s smallest and lightest full-frame E-mount lens camera. Also, like the Alpha 7RV, this camera features advanced AI technology with rich gradation performance, low noise and high light sensitivity for cinematic quality images. The ZV-E1 is a 35mm full frame camera with a back-illuminated CMOS Exmor R sensor. This sensor has 12.1 effective megapixels that provide high light sensitivity, low noise, and beautiful bokeh.

Thanks to the BIONZ XR processor, the ZV-E1 has up to 8 times more processing power than the ZV-E10. The BIONZ XR processor also greatly improves the camera’s performance in terms of gradation reproduction, color reproduction, noise and light sensitivity, and more. Data handling won’t be a problem at all, even when shooting in 4K (QFHD: 3840 x 2160) at 120p. The BIONZ XR processor also contributes to improved autofocus speed and accuracy.

With full frame readout in 10-bit 4:2:2, high-quality 4K (QFHD) videos can be recorded without pixel binning. In addition, the camera offers high-resolution 4K images and many possibilities in post-production.

Content creators can record in 4K 60p from day one with the ZV-E1 and shoot in 4K 120p via the Creators Cloud starting in June with a firmware upgrade. This camera delivers smooth 5x (maximum) slow motion images. The ZV-E1 delivers excellent picture quality when playing slow-motion or fast-motion video directly in S&Q mode when using the XAVC SI format at 60p and a maximum bit rate of 600Mbps (4:2:2 10-bit, H.264, All-Me) . When the camera receives the update in June and when using the XAVC S format, up to 10x slow motion can be used in Full HD at 240fps. This opens new horizons for capturing dynamic sports.

The 15-point dynamic range enables you to capture natural-looking photos in different lighting situations without losing highlights or shadow details. The standard ISO range is from 80 to 102400 for both stills and movies. The extended range for stills is 40 to 409600 and the extended range for movie is 80 to 409600.

The ZV-E1 can create high-quality content with Cinematic Vlog settings. These settings allow creators to intuitively create movie-like scenes. By choosing the right “look” and “mood”, everyone can create cinematic shots that perfectly match the scene and the creative intentions of the user.

The overall cinematic feel is further enhanced by the 24fps frame rate and cinematic widescreen aspect ratio (2.35:1) with black bars above and below the image.
