Acer proposes Swift X 16 with AMD Ryzen 7040 and Nvidia RTX 40

Introducing Acer Swift X 16: A powerhouse for creativity where the manufacturer combines the most powerful chipsets from AMD with the latest GPUs from Nvidia.

AMD and Nvidia should be working together on the Acer Swift X 16. Acer is choosing what we think is a particularly interesting mix of AMD Ryzen CPUs and 40th Gen Nvidia GPUs. On the processor side, Acer supplies CPUs with the Ryzen 7040 lineup. This 40 is important, as it ensures that the processors are built on AMD’s latest Zen 4 architecture. That’s not a given for the entire 7000 series, of which AMD has made a good soup.

AMD and Nvidia

You can configure the Acer Swift X 16 with up to an AMD Ryzen 9 7940H. This is a 45W chip with eight compute cores on board. AMD doesn’t care to differentiate between performance-oriented and efficiency-oriented cores the way Intel does, so all eight cores run at full clock speed and support multithreading. The base clock speed is 4 GHz, with the possibility of overclocking up to 5.2 GHz. Whether this peak can be achieved also depends on Acer’s cooling.

Ryzen chips come with integrated graphics capabilities, but Acer is also thinking about users who want more horsepower. For them, the Nvidia GeForce 4050 is an option. This mobile GPU is built on the latest Ada Lovelace architecture and brings with it 6GB of GDDR6. Within the RTX 40 spectrum, the GPU is by no means the most powerful, but the chip has more than enough processing power on board to provide significant added value in the Acer Swift X 16.

Low RAM

Acer also opts for a 16-inch 16:10 screen that can deliver 500 nits despite the OLED technology. The resolution is 3200 x 2000 pixels and Acer claims one hundred percent of the DCI-P3 spectrum is covered. We also read some marketing nonsense in advertising about scientifically unproven blue light claims. We enthusiastically applaud the presence of a numeric keypad.

We were a bit surprised by the rest of the configuration, as Acer equips this laptop with up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM. Given the rest of the hardware, the 32 GB option was appropriate here. You also get 2TB of PCIe Gen 4 SSD storage, USB Type C is present and the laptop has a full HDMI 2.1 port.

Acer will bring the device to Europe from June with a starting price of €1,566 including VAT. Acer today also launched several laptops in its TravelMate range, aimed at hybrid workers.
