WATCH: 5 Tips for Beginner Cyclists | Exercise yourself

Do you want to go on a bike adventure? Cycling tours ensure a sporty, sustainable and budget-friendly experience. With these five tips you will be well prepared as a beginner.

Hans Vermessen is an avid cyclist. He regularly hangs out with his friends and sometimes spells out his agenda for a powerful extreme race.

Hans’ Five Tips:

#1 The bike

  • In principle, all bikes are suitable.
  • A gravel bike has the advantage of versatility.

#2 Bags and GPS

  • Make sure to take a large bag on the back of your bike.
  • Bags between the frame and handlebars are also useful.
  • Bike GPS is a must.

#3 Baggage

  • Choose cycling shoes that you can walk well in.
  • Make sure you have an extra set of cycling clothes.
  • Roll your regular clothes into one compact package.
  • Also bring a down jacket: warm and space-saving.
  • Keep the tools you definitely need separate from the ones you hope you won’t need to use.
  • Provide adequate lighting and batteries.
  • Don’t forget sunscreen.
  • Lemon wipes are ideal for easy hand cleaning.

#4 Overnight

  • Choose your comfort level yourself: adventurous camping or lounging in a hotel.
  • Don’t take cost into account.

#5 Leave!

  • Make a plan in advance of where you want to go and what you want to see.
  • Leave as soon as possible after work.
  • Look around at noon where you will end up for the evening.
  • Enjoy!
