Last week the Mechelen Ski Center (ISCM) thawed before the summer holidays until Sunday 30 July. So skating is no longer possible next to the cinema, but the space with a concrete track offers other possibilities. Kathleen Gerts, Director of ISCM: ‘The summer pop-up skating rink sounded like a great idea to us. There is already a concrete path that is perfect as a surface. Snowboarding is also close to skiing in terms of technique, so we also make a link with the ski season. With our program we want to attract children, young people and adults alike. For the last set, we’ll kick off the night with a “Back to the 80’s 90’s party” with a live DJ. During the ceremonial opening this afternoon, young skaters had the opportunity to get a taste of the sport. After all, the ISCM invited the students to lead in the pop-up arena. About 40 students from De Bel and Ter Elst hitched their skis. Then it was the turn of the common people.

Traditionally, the weekly college of the mayor and aldermen is held on Mondays in the Huis van de Mechelaar. But this will change from Monday 5th June. Since then, the city council meets once a month at a location in one of the neighborhoods and villages. In this way, the city council takes the opportunity to go out into the neighborhoods and villages and engage in dialogue with the local population.
