DEME Launches Historic Offshore Wind Project in US

DEME has started offshore work for the Vineyard Wind 1 project in the US with several employees in our region. ‘Orion’, DEME’s dedicated offshore floating installation vessel, has successfully installed the first of 62 foundations.

Vineyard Wind 1 is the nation’s first commercial-scale offshore wind farm and the first of several U.S. wind projects in DEME’s portfolio.

DEME, a leading contractor of offshore wind farms, is pleased to support the energy transition with smart solutions based on decades of experience in the renewable energy sector and by leveraging its high-quality fleet. Equipped with DP3 and custom motion compensated gripper system ‘Orion’ is specially designed for installation of large monopile foundations.

DEME Offshore US undertakes the transportation and installation of monopile foundations, transition pieces, offshore substations and corrosion protection, as well as the foundation and site for the offshore substation. Later, the company will install wind turbines.

John Clausen, Director DEME Offshore US, said: “After years of preparation, the first large-scale offshore wind installation in the US has officially begun. We are excited to usher in a new era in the US offshore wind market.
