Here’s hoping the tempers have cooled slightly against the World Cup: USA and Mexico are at odds with each other, with a Genk player involved in the fight.

In a particularly tense match between Mexico and the United States, the puppets danced for the first time after about an hour of play. Frustrated by Mexico’s 2-0 deficit, Cesar Montes made a nasty tackle on Fowler’s bag, prompting a furious reaction from the American players. Not only was Montez red carded by the referee, Weston McKenney also had to leave the field for his reaction.

However, two red cards weren’t enough to calm things down. Things escalated again in the final stages of the match: Edson Alvarez kicked the ball hard into Sergio Test, leading to a collision between Test and Genk’s Gerardo Arteaga. A small brawl earns two adults red cards.

If all that wasn’t enough, there were also racist chants from the stands. The match was temporarily halted and the USA eventually won 3-0. They now face Canada in the Nations League final, which beat Panama 2-0 thanks to goals from former KAA Gent player Jonathan David and Alfonso Davies.

With the three countries co-hosting the World Cup in 2026, it’s best not to argue too much. The United States and Mexico do not appear to be the best of friends by any means.
