EA recently confirmed that newly formed studio Cliffhanger Games is working on a single-player game Black Panther, though few details are known about the game at this time as the project is still in the early stages of production. However, following the announcement, Cliffhanger Games posted multiple job postings on LinkedIn (noted by Exputer) detailing the title.
The listing for the Senior Game Designer position appears to confirm that the Black Panther title will be an open world game, matching what was leaked before it was officially announced. The listing notes that someone in the role will help “bring a rich and dynamic game world to life” and work on “the design and structure of the world,” as well as “how the world is filled with memorable characters and enemies.”
While EA has officially announced Black Panther as an action-adventure experience, the listing for the software engineer position describes it as an action-RPG.
He also mentions a new narrative design and “extremely innovative” presentation system. The so-called “open story” system in Vacancy is described as the sum of “interconnected systems” revolving around dialogues and conversational systems. The list also lists “experience of dynamic story, branching dialogues, and interactive fiction as a plus” as a requirement for the role.
Finally, the listing for the position of chief software engineer indicates that the game will be built on Unreal Engine 5.
While games developed by EA’s in-house studios traditionally used the company’s in-house Frostbite engine for project development in the past, there’s been a shift in recent years, with the next Mass Effect game and Motive, among others. The studio’s Iron Man title will also be based on the Unreal Engine 5.
