The Titanic exhibition in Paris honors the late explorer with objects from the wreck | outside

Mr. Titanic was Henri-Paul Nargolet’s nickname, and he was one of the five people aboard the tourist submarine Titan. That ship lost contact with the surface in mid-June after diving to visit the wreck of the Titanic. A rescue attempt in the North Atlantic briefly caught the world’s attention, but evidence showed that the craft had exploded underwater, killing everyone on board.

The Titanic exhibition, which opened in the French capital, was largely the result of the work and passion of Henri-Paul Nargolet, according to the event’s producer, Pascal Bernardin. “The explorer helped retrieve many of the 260 items on display, including navigational tools and hooks from the ship, as well as passengers’ watches and jewelry, from the shipwreck.”

The exhibition, which runs from July 18 to September 10 at the Porte de Versailles exhibition center, begins with a model of the legendary ship, which is more than four meters long. Visitors are then taken on a journey from the night the Titanic left England for New York in April 1912, to the sinking of what was at the time the largest cruise ship in the world after being breached by an iceberg.

The exhibition includes the reconstruction of the cabins, the grand staircase and even the oppressive atmosphere of the engine room. A joint Franco-American expedition discovered the wreckage of the Titanic nearly four kilometers underwater off the coast of Newfoundland in 1985.

Nargulet led or participated in six of the eight wreck excavations between 1987 and 2010, and has recovered more than 5,000 artifacts. The ships used on those missions differed greatly from Titan. Previously raised concerns about the submarine’s safety came to light after the implosion. The US Coast Guard and Canadian authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
