Xavier Mercier (34) has already played for KV Kortrijk, Cercle Bruggen and the OHL, but left Belgium last year. After a year it looks like he’s coming to Belgium again.
Frenchman Xavier Mercier came to Belgium in January 2016, then KV Kortrijk took him away from Frenchman Boulogne. In 46 matches, he scored 7 times and provided 7 assists. In July of 2017, Mercier then left for Cercle Brugge, where he scored 14 times in 64 matches and provided 16 assists.
In the summer of 2019, Mercier then moved to Leuven and excelled there in particular. In the 2020/21 season, the King of Belgium was crowned with 15 assists, and in 2021/2022 Mercier made 14 more assists, which made him move to Hungarian Ferencvaros last year.
He actually returned to Belgium after one year
Mercier made 5 assists there and scored 1 goal in 23 matches and still has a contract until mid-2025 in Hungary. But a year later he will return to Belgium. sopress RWDM’s interest was previously reported, and according to Sasha Tavolieri, the transfer is complete.
RWDM will announce Mercier’s transfer on Tuesday, and a new coach will also be introduced following the shock resignation of Vincent Euvarard. Looks like it’s going to be a busy day for a PhD student.
