Remember when Jeremy Duco’s name first appeared in the national media? Well, the deal from Manchester City was one of the top 11 talents Marc Cook linked to Anderlecht five years ago in a stunning press moment. But what about the other ten talents at that time?
Matthijs Suray (FC Dordrecht)
He left Anderlecht in 2020 without having played a single minute with the first team. “Without any explanation, we received a message that he must leave,” his father once said bitterly.
“In the end, we thank Anderlecht for the motivation. I hope one day we can put a signed shirt in Jan Kindermans’ mailbox.”
The midfielder then moved to Dutch second division club FC Dordrecht, where he now captains the team.
Anouar Ait El Hadj (Racing Genk)
At just 17 years old, he got his chance from Simon Davies. His talent then showed (with whims) under Vincent Kompany, but he completely faded into the background with Felice Mazo.
Al-Hajj even refused to play with the reserves due to dissatisfaction, a decision he later apologized for.
He found a new challenge at Racing Genk in the winter of last season, as he was unable to win a title role at the moment.
Pilgrim later said of his downfall at Anderlecht: “It’s my fault that things went downhill.” “I was 18 years old and I thought everything would go away by itself.”
Lucas Lessens (Anderlecht)
He should make his debut with the main team in 2020 under Vincent Kompany. It happened in a simple way: the defender was then shown a red card against KV Oostende for a heavy tackle.
After that, he only played five times with the first team due to injuries, but remained fit last season and played 27 matches for the future team.
Halim Timasi (Al-Ittihad)
He left Anderlecht in 2021 after ten years without having played a minute with the first team. Then he moved to Al-Ittihad, where he is currently in the reserves.
According to his LinkedIn profile, he is also studying law at ULB in Brussels.
Kylian Sardella (Anderlecht)
71 matches have already been counted for Anderlecht. He made his debut at just 17 years old under Simon Davies and then bounced between base and bench.
He seems to be winning the competition with newcomer Louis Patrese at the moment.
Loic Macho (Anderlecht)
He is still active for Anderlecht. The 21-year-old linebacker is a regular first baseman in the NBA Challenger League.
“My big dream is to play for Anderlecht, that would be my childhood dream come true”, he said a few months ago.
He moves between Brussels and Ghent, as he is also pursuing a master’s degree in commercial engineering at Ghent University.
Chris Kaloleka (without a club)
In 2021, exchange promises from Anderlecht for promises from KV Mechelen. After that, he went to Dutch club Helmond Sport, where he did not participate in any minutes due to injuries and saw his contract prematurely terminated.
Currently without a club.
Jari Verschaeren (Anderlecht)
Along with Jeremy Ducos, he was the greatest talent in the team that gave Mark Cook a professional contract at the time.
He has also lived up to all expectations with his brilliance at Anderlecht and even being picked for the Red Devils. It suffered a setback after that, but seems to be starting again under Brian Rimmer.
The only disaster that occurred just prior to the play-offs was that Verschaeren tore his cruciate ligament and would be sidelined for several months.
Antoine Kolasin (Anderlecht)
He made a great debut by immediately scoring in the derby against Club Brugge. He also scored two goals in the next three matches, and so looked like he would be a revelation at Anderlecht.
Only an ankle injury suddenly slowed the striker down. After that he never scored a goal for Purple & White again. He also failed to score during his loan period to Zulte Waregem in Heerenveen last season (3 times).
Kolasen is still with Anderlecht but has not been in the squad in recent weeks and could leave.
Zacharias Antonio (Kabilen)
He was selected in 2020 for the amazing move to Serie B club Cosenza. However, he never played there and returned to Belgium for Union (Promises).
Last week, the 21-year-old full-back signed a contract with lower-division club Capelin.
