An escaped lion caused panic in the Pakistani city of Karachi on Tuesday. The man walked for hours in a crowded neighborhood and was eventually arrested without causing any injuries. Demand Services reported this on Wednesday and the above photos of the animal’s flight are circulating on social media.

This is the second time this year that a lion has escaped from Karachi, the largest city in Pakistan with a population of more than 20 million people. A 20-month-old male lion roamed the streets of a busy neighborhood on Tuesday. People screamed in fear and ran.

A team of zookeepers rushed to rescue the animal and it ultimately took more than two hours to contain the mammal and put it in a cage. “Capturing such a huge and dangerous animal was a frightening experience,” says conservationist Mukhtar Ahmad Soomro, who was part of the team. No one was attacked by the lion.

Solid fine

The animal was handed over to Karachi Zoo. Charges were brought against the lion’s owner for keeping a wild animal in a residential area. He faces a fine of 300,000 Pakistani rupees (915 euros). Pakistani law allows individuals to have a small zoo in their homes, but owning a lion or tiger in a residential area is prohibited.
