Spotify chief reveals why Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s podcast didn’t work: ‘It didn’t make anyone happy’ | Property

PropertyIn June this year it was announced that Spotify and Archewell Audio, the production company of British Prince Harry (39 years old) and his wife Meghan Markle (42 years old), would no longer work together. Spotify’s CEO is now speaking out about the deal for the first time and he wasn’t kind to the pair. “We couldn’t delight consumers with just 12 podcast episodes in two and a half years.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s ‘Archetypes’ podcast deal was worth £18 million, equivalent to around €20.8 million. But Spotify CEO Daniel Ek is now telling the BBC that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle “did not produce enough content to justify full payment”. Although the termination of the contract between the two would have occurred by mutual agreement.

“We thought innovation was essential to revamp this podcast,” continues the Spotify chief. “We thought we could deliver a great experience that would make consumers very happy and empower new creators.” He added, “And the reality is that some things worked, and some things didn’t work. We’re learning from that.”

“Damned crooks”

During a conference call with financial analysts earlier this year, Daniel Ek admitted that mistakes had been made during a campaign – worth more than a billion euros – in an attempt to establish itself as the industry’s biggest competitor. “Spotify thought Harry and Meghan’s podcast would make more money,” says an insider.

Spotify’s “Head of Podcast Innovation and Monetization” Bill Simmons also criticized the pair. In an episode of his podcast, “The Bill Simmons,” he said: “Fucking crooks.” “This is the podcast we should have done with them.”
