Premier League has made a big decision over VAR blunder surrounding Liverpool and takes tough action – Football News

Liverpool lost 1-2 to Tottenham last weekend. Although the match could have looked completely different if the right decisions had been made.

For example, Luis Diaz’s goal was wrongly ruled out for offside. A misunderstanding occurred between VAR and the officials on the field, making it appear as if VAR wanted to disallow the goal.

Liverpool then requested VAR audio to find out exactly what happened. After that, the club wanted to “examine its options”. On Tuesday evening, it was finally decided to publish the audio. The English Premier League published the recording on its website.

Moreover, the match did not go without a fight. Liverpool were shown the red card twice (Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota). In the 96th minute, the Reds lost again to an own goal scored by defender Joel Matip.

PGMOL, the English referees’ association, admitted an error had been made. They now want to take measures so that nothing like this happens again.

“The Guidelines for Video Match Officials have always emphasized the need for efficiency, but never at the expense of accuracy. This principle will be clearly emphasized,” the PGMOL said.

“A new VAR communication protocol will be developed to make communication between the referee and the VAR team clearer regarding on-field decisions. As an additional step in the process, the VAR will confirm the result of the VAR verification process with the AVAR before the referee. The final decision is confirmed to the officials on the field,” they concluded in Official statement.
