Windows Insiders can test Android apps on Windows 11

Windows Insider Program participants can already try to test how Android apps run on Windows 11. The specific app for the Android subsystem for Windows has appeared in the Microsoft App Store.

Part of the innovation is that Microsoft will soon also allow Android apps to run on Windows 11. This should be done through the dedicated Amazon App Store and through the Android Subsystem for Windows app.

For knowledgeable participants, the Android Subsystem for Windows app is available in the Microsoft Store. Attached with Microsoft Confidential Tag – for testing purposes. The application is currently similar to an installer or update program for system components. The app may not be available as an official app in the Microsoft Store at all.

It is clear that something must be done. Microsoft previously indicated that the upcoming Android subsystem will provide a native proxy application between the Android application model and the Windows application model. There will be a virtual machine (VM) that must provide compatibility for the Android Open Source Project (ASOP). Within this project are several variants dedicated to the mobile operating system, such as Amazon’s FireOS, that do not require Google Play Store support.
