Banks have become like gas stations. They prefer to let the client do the work themselves. But sometimes that doesn’t work, and the banker still has to hit the ground running. There is a price attached to this. We pick three things and examine how the largest banks in our country charge them. We also collect some interesting information.
A checking account also costs money each month. Would you rather not pay anything? These banks also offer a free checking account.
1. Count the change
Have you emptied your daughter or son’s piggy bank and found a lot of coins in it? It is best to have it changed by a baker or butcher. After all, taking them to the bank can cost quite a bit.
Do you hand over the money to KBC? Then you pay 5 euros for every 1000 coins.
At Belfius, deposits of up to 50 pieces are included in the total amount of your account. If you present more than one bag, it will cost €3.72 to process it.
At BNP Paribas Fortis, you can hand over five clips of change daily for free at the counter. If it is more than that, you pay 4 euros for a bag weighing up to 10 kg.
ING charges a fee for change from the fourth bag up to a maximum of 10kg. Then it costs 4 euros per bag.
2. A copy of the document
You better not be naive either. Do you want a copy of the payment order you delivered to your bank? Then it costs 30.25 euros at KBC. In Belfius it is 20 euros. At BNP Paribas Fortis, searching for an accounting document costs 12 euros. ING charges €18.15 for a copy of the document.
At Argenta, you can search all documents dated after April 1, 2012 for free by office staff. This is then included in the payroll of the local independent bank branch operator. If you want a vintage piece, the head office has to hit the ground running. In this case you pay 50 euros per form.
3. Inheritance management
Dying is also not a good decision financially. Belfius charges you €75 per year to manage a real estate file if you are over 18 years old. Under this age, follow-up is free. BNP Paribas Fortis follows the same philosophy. Here the cost of administration is 50 euros per year if the deceased was over 18 years old. In KBC the annual cost is in any case 50 euros.
ING applies an application fee of €115.25 if the deceased was at least 18 years old.
At Argenta you can get away with paying €5 per year to manage your inheritance file.

4. Other additional costs
• If KBC terminates the relationship with the client because you do not wish to provide certain information in the context of anti-money laundering legislation, this will cost you €100.
• If KBC has to pay off the balance on your prepaid credit card, but your account has already been settled, it will withhold €60.
• Do you have a dormant account? After that, BNP Paribas Fortis can charge you 10 percent of assets under management, up to a maximum of €200.
• Not having enough funds in your account to make a direct debit can be costly. At ING you pay €7.26 for insufficient balance.
