‘We were great rivals’: Schwarzenegger and Stallone on their feud | celebrities

celebritiesArnold Schwarzenegger, 76, and Sylvester Stallone, 77, looked back on “The Graham Norton Show” at the moment they didn’t get along so well. “Even our DNA hated each other,” Stallone said. They are now good friends.

“We pushed the competition to the extreme: we had to have the best bodies, we had to kill more people in our movies, we had to have the biggest weapons,” Schwarzenegger says. The reason for the dispute was the Golden Globe Awards ceremony in 1977, where the two actors sat at the same table. Stallone lost in five of the six categories in which he was nominated. Stallone says Schwarzenegger would have laughed about that.

They outdo each other

The two actors have been regularly rude to each other ever since. For example, Schwarzenegger admitted last year to The Hollywood Reporter that in the 1990s he pretended to be interested in starring in the bad movie Stop! Or my mom would shoot, so Stallone would want the part. “That’s 100 percent true. He fell in love with it. He did his best,” Schwarzenegger said. “At the time we were great rivals and did all kinds of crazy things to get the best of each other.”

Successful cooperation

This changed when the two invested in the Planet Hollywood restaurant chain and thus saw each other regularly. Now Schwarzenegger and Stallone are friends. “We cherish our friendship,” Schwarzenegger says. The two have also appeared in several films together, including three installments of “The Expendables.”
