The British government bans the American Bully XL dog breed after two fatal accidents | outside

The British government has decided to ban the dangerous dog breed American Bully XL. This action comes after a series of attacks that also resulted in deaths.

American Bully XL has gained popularity in the UK during the Corona crisis. However, the number of incidents has clearly increased since then. There have been at least five attacks in recent months, two of which resulted in death.

The UK Department for the Environment has now decided that as of January 1, these dogs are prohibited from being sold, adopted or given away anywhere. This procedure applies in England and Wales.

Question marks about the ban

As of February 1, dog ownership is also prohibited. Therefore owners should put their pets to sleep by a doctor. An exemption can be obtained, but in this case the animal must be sterilized and kept on a leash and muzzled in public places.

Scientists and animal rights organizations acknowledge the dog can be dangerous, but question the ban. They argue that aggressive behavior can be explained primarily by poor training by owners. They also fear that breeders will simply switch to other dangerous breeds.
