The plant in the US state of Indiana requires an investment of over US$800 million and will create approximately 1,200 jobs once production is fully operational.
Inflation Act
The factory will soon produce enough solar cells for 20,000 solar panels every day. The solar cells will be used for a previously announced solar panel assembly plant in Mesquite, Texas. The plant will also have a peak production capacity of 5 GW.
Production at the Jeffersonville solar cell factory is expected to begin in late 2025. Thomas Koerner, Senior Vice President of Canadian Solar, emphasizes the importance of this new manufacturing facility: “The installation of this facility is an important milestone that will allow us to better serve our US customers with the most advanced technology in the industry. It is the second of the long-term investments it is looking to make in the United States as it strategically thinks about meeting the long-term needs of a local, sustainable and clean energy chain and the local input rules of the newly created Inflationary Reduction Act. “
150 Engineers
“The City of Jeffersonville is pleased that Canadian Solar has chosen the River Ridge Trade Center as the location for its new manufacturing facility in the United States,” said Jeffersonville Mayor Mike Moore. “Not only are they making a major financial investment in our community, but they are becoming one of the largest employers anywhere in the Greater Louisville area. When this factory is in full production, it will employ a total of over 150 engineers. We are excited to have a global industry leader join our community.”
